"We all have the ability to heal ourselves from within"

Blue strokez is a studio for counselling therapy where you can embark on your emotional well-being journey through talk therapy or art therapy.

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy which helps clients express their emotions from their subconscious mind through art.

This expressive form of therapy helps people deal with anger issues, grief, build self-esteem, recover from trauma etc.

SESSIONS

Hue & You

This therapy session helps you to improve your self-esteem and thereby boosts your confidence level. Low self-esteem can lead to distorted thinking and difficulty coping with even day to day stress. Through art therapy, one can become aware of the self and change the way one sees themselves.

Fear to Calmness

Fear is a strong unpleasant emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of the danger that can stop you from moving forward in your life. The deepest fears can be brought out, identified, and approached with a new perspective by doing art.

Grief and Trauma

The loss of a loved one, one’s job or anything one values dear can be traumatic and push one to prolonged grief. A guided art therapy session helps in processing your grief and trauma and helps in developing a coping mechanism to overcome the grief.

Anxiety

Anxiety is an intense worry and fear about everyday situations. For some, even getting out of bed can be a Herculean task. Art therapy sessions help in creating awareness about one’s anxiety and overcoming it.

My Haven

Life might be overwhelming for some people. They need a little help to build resilience, to bounce back. This session will teach you to create your safe space and go there in times of uncertainty.

Mindful & Aware

Everyday life does not allow us to be in the present always. Through this session, you can cultivate mindfulness that helps you in your overall emotional well-being and help develop the ability to be involved fully in your activities. This session also includes art journaling.

Please note, the sessions are for 1.5 hours. A minimum of 3 sessions is recommended for better results. Sessions include talk therapy.

THERAPIST

Uma Balachandran

Art therapist/psychologist/

artist/designer

My passion, training and innate curiosity led me to where I am today – a designer, an artist, psychologist, art therapist and a Vipassana meditator. I believe that we all can heal from within by ourselves.

My journey in the field of art and design began over two decades ago. My entrepreneurial venture ‘Coloured’ is into fashion designing, styling and wardrobe consulting. Designing/styling for clients provided me opportunities not just for creative expression but to also appreciate the importance of understanding personality traits as an element for delivering a good design. This early interest in human behaviour led me to study it further and become a psychologist.

I use my knowledge and experience of art & psychology to practice Art Therapy. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that helps clients express their emotions from their subconscious minds through art. Being an artist gives me a unique perspective in understanding the therapeutic value of art that contributes to my Art Therapy. Art is a powerful medium of expression, and one need not be an artist to create art. In my Art Therapy sessions, I use art as a medium to help transfer emotions onto an art form. This methodology helps in effectively processing our feelings and, therefore, in healing. Mindfulness is one of the other tools I use in my sessions to create awareness of the mind and body and learn to cope. Being aware of our body sensations help us to be in the present. My therapeutic practice includes Art Therapy, Talk Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), along with mindfulness exercises.

...

Along the way, I have nurtured my spiritual growth through vipassana meditation which made me understand the mind and body connection and aided my transformation.

While I keep my design work active, I have been providing Art Therapy to children in various schools, shelter homes for children, paediatric palliative care etc. As a certified Trauma Therapist, I give individual and group sessions to process grief and trauma. I also conduct art based sessions on self-esteem, communication, addressing anxiety/fear and building resilience. Through my personal sessions, my clients have experienced benefits in the area of pain management, coping skills through mindfulness and art journaling.
